Body Language

Weekly Feature: Body Language plays 3 NYC shows in April

Recently featured on the cover of The Deli Austin 2012 issue - distributed for free at SXSW - electro-soul outfit Body Language channel a lifetime's worth of music fandom into their own hybrid sound. Citing everyone from Bill Withers and The Beach Boys to Animal Collective as influences, the group is a fine example of the modern Brooklyn indie scene, with music-obsessed artists drawing inspiration from a variety of eclectic sources.

Music fans will have a variety of opportunities to catch the band live in April, since they'll be playing a string of 3 shows in the NYC area: Bowery Ballroom on 04.14, Bowery Hotel on 04.17 and Brooklyn Museum on 04.19. - Read Dean Van Nguyen's feature on the band here.

Rocking folks,

The Deli for the second year will be in Austin during the unmentionable festival (we probably could mention it in this context, but at this point we really don't want to...) with a printed magazine!

The issue will be mostly focused on the best unofficial shows and The Deli's favorite emerging artists in the 11 scenes we cover.

We are making it available online the week before the actual festival in pdf, READ IT (or download it) HERE!

CAVEMAN

Placing at #55 in our previous Best NYC for Emerging Artists Poll, Caveman in one year grew their reputation the old fashioned way, earning their fans one by one, with their songs and live shows. Heading to SXSW 2012, they are now one of the most blogged emerging artists out there (with the only exception of Pitchfork, which still has to review their stunning debut "CoCo Beware").

You can read the cover feature we gave this band back in the summer of 2011 here.

LUCIUS

Lucius

The two singers from Lucius are a dangerous tag team, sounding powerful without becoming overbearing, tender without becoming too cutesy. Meeting while in college at Boston before traveling to live in Bushwick, they must know each other well, as their voices work together in an uncannily close relationship.

Lucius will be featured in the Spring 2012 NYC issue of The Deli, you can read an interview from 2011 here.

WIDOWSPEAK

Widowspeak

Captured Tracks' most mellow signee, Widowspeak is also the band with the most potential in that lo-fi leaning roster. The band emanates a strange beautiful mysterious nostalgia that lingers deep within old souls. Their music is unobtrusive — it takes its time and slowly Molly Hamilton’s vocal melodies seep through Robert Thomas’ searing leads and Michael Stasiak’s steady groove. Old musical acquaintances from Tacoma, Washington, Micheal Stasiak and Molly Hamilton decamped to New York after a label they contributed to fell apart. Many moons later Michael urged Molly—who had little faith in her electric guitar skills and showmanship—to acquire a used Dan Electro and start writing songs.
