Dishing out insatiable classic pop for the last five or so years, New Move go about their creative exhibition employing hints of glam, indie rock and lurid doo wop. Their new album, Back in the Habit, drops today and it features a variety of local artists, including Illmaculate, King Who, Radiation City and more. For the track we're sharing today, we're focusing on this banger with Chanti Darling and Ripley Snell on the mic.

"The City Life" has an interesting beat from Cameron Spies on keys, Jesse Bettis on guitar and bass, and a soulful vocal melody from Chanti Darling that lasts throughout the track, playing with some very silkily delivered bars from Snell. Everything about it is just delightful, and worthy of many repeated plays.

New Move are having a release show for Back in the Habit tonight at Mississippi Studios along with some sets from Y La Bamba and Hustle & Drone. Minden, Boone Howard and the Domestics will all be making guest appearances as well.

Since we're all ready to long jump the hell into 2017, now's the time to sift through the various activities Portland offers for us to boozily ring the new year in to. One of these tipsy turn ups happens to come from the least crappy thing to come out of 2016 - Jump Jack Sound Machine.

The monthly dance party give us a slight peek into what Studio 54 must have been like, spinning funk, disco, boogie and almost every other genre that used to get rumps shaking. For their New Years Eve bash, some live performances will be added to their usual lineup of DJs, coming from integral starters of the Jump Jack Sound Machine glory. 

The soulful intonations that landed Chanti Darling as the best new artist of 2016 will be bellowing out of the Mississippi Studios speakers, with sexy sashays all along the stage. Natasha Kmeto, who often sings along with Chanti Darling but most definitely can rock the mic solo, will also be blessing us with that beautiful voice.

Unfortunately for most, tickets for this are sold out, but if you've got your hands on some or consider yourself close to a door guy, hit up Jump Jack Sound and sweat this toxic year out.

 It's more than obvious that with what is happening in the United States and really the entire world around us, that both as minorities and Americans alike, we need to band together. Race and sexuality shouldn't serve as another barrier that separates us and with an upcoming lineup of racially diverse and fluid artists, biases and hate need not apply in any way, shape to this night.

We've got Blossom, who offers one of the only vocal r&b representations in Portland. You've probably heard her popular "Black Magic Woman," and the EYRST vocalist will most definitely bring some black woman magic to the bill. There will be quite a few opportunities to see Blossom this year, including Pickathon at the end of the summer, which she'll be playing along with Chanti Darling.

Oh, Chanti, Chanti, Chanti! The range on this handsome honey is unlike what most vocalists are capable of pulling off nowadays. Chanti and his Darling team of swirvers, twirlers and musicians have been everywhere lately, and it couldn't be more well deserved. Blending funk, r&b, soul and love, Chanti Darling are running wild with that 'best new band title' sashaying their way into ruling our world. 

Hailing from Seattle, SassyBlack split from her partner Stas Irons in THEESatisfaction and has been making it quite well on her own with her jazzy stylings. This will be her first performance in Portland, so let's welcome her well.

This show is TOMORROW at Holocene. It's 21 and over and will have DJ Lamar LeRoy hyping the vibe in between sets. Spend $12, come stand together with us and just have a damn good time.

The 10th annual St. Johns Bizarre is coming up with a pretty stacked lineup of varied Portland acts. The nine hour neighborhood festival will be headlined by old school Portlanders Quasi, on their only West Coast appearance for their upcoming tour in support of the repressing of three of their classic LPs. Best new artist Chanti Darling will also soulfully take the stage, along with pop rockers Minden, a nice bit of indie-folk with the Domestics, and the lighthearted garage pop of Patsy's Rats.

The St. Johns Bizarre will also feature over 100 local vendors for their expanded craft fair, the first appearance of Circus Cascadia teaching circus skills like tightrope walking, stilting and clowning, and of course, their locally sponsored beer (and cider!) garden.

Downtown St. Johns will be blocked off from 10am-7pm on May 14th for the free event, in conjuncture with the St. Johns Parade.
