Out In The Streets Festival bringing local music and art to Ridgewood, Queens this weekend (08.01 - 08.02)

Now in its 6th year, Out In the Streets Festival is back in action to bring your favorite indie bands to Queens for a weekend of art, food, fun, and music. Hosted at the historic Onderdonk House in Ridgewood, the outdoor fest is the smaller, DIY version of all the big summer music festivals that have competed for your attention and presence in the past few months. Since it began on a street corner in Bushwick in 2009, Out In the Streets has kept itself homegrown and independent but continues to grow every year, celebrating local artists and eateries in this two-day multimedia festival. The lineup includes bands like Mr Twin Sister, Total Slacker, The Love Supreme, Wild Yaks, Salt Cathedral and many more. The bands performing this weekend are all mostly NYC-based, and the lineup on Sunday is featuring local bands from Bushwick and Ridgewood. Full weekend passes are still available for only $35, with one day tickets going for $20, on sale here. Check out a Spotify compilation of all the performing bands here, or streaming below. - Sam O'Hara
Jake's CMJ Day 3: Malatese, Life Size Maps, Haybaby, Homeshake, LeRug, No One and the Somebodies

Day 3 ended up being my Brooklyn band day. Somehow I ended up seeing all the bands I see play all the time, which might not be in the spirit of CMJ but, whatever (fuck you by the way for criticizing me). I did get to see a bunch of bands I had been meaning to see for a long time; I'll stop talking now lets just get on with it already. - Read Jake Saunders' report of Day 3 of the CMJ Music Marathon 2014.

NYC bands on the rise: Haybaby plays Grand Victory tomorrow (12.06)

Brooklyn’s raggedy indie-rockers Haybaby are great for rocking out to, but their songs are also very catchy and tense at once, in a way that's at times vaguely reminiscent of The Breeders or, depending on the song, Pavement. The lively trio offers a refreshing alternative yet punk/thrash sound, something that molds the techniques we’ve all heard before into something new and exciting. Leslie Hong’s adorable female vocals pair nicely with Zach & Sam’s counterparts. They just released a noteweorthy 4-track EP titled SUPERPRESENT in October, which you can listen to below via Bandcamp, and they’re set to play The Grand Victory on Friday 12.06 as part of a stacked lineup including Low Fat Getting High, Hunktronik & Jangula. – Michael Haskoor (@Tweetskoor)
