Heliotropes

Heliotropes release album + play Glasslands on 6.18

We hope you won't think we are chauvinistic if we say that Heliotropes' brand of rock doesn’t often come from the fairer sex. Yeah because we are not just talking about 'punchy' stuff here, it's more like... fury! The Brooklyn female foursome has an explosive debut record on the way, and a release show to celebrate it in one of the finest NYC venues. Glasslands will be abuzz with excitement for A Constant Sea’s release on 6/18, and with support from Bad Cop and Fan-Tan, the night promises to be interesting from the first act to the last. You don’t want to miss this one, but if you do, they’re playing at 4Knots this summer, so you’ll have another chance. - Zack Kraimer

Heliotropes release free Mp3 from "A Constant Sea," out in June

The fine ladies in Brooklyn's Heliotropes continue to carve out a niche in the psych rock genre with their penchant for doom heavy grooves. The band has just released the first single “Psalms,” which will be included on their debut album “A Constant Sea” set for release on June 18 via Manimal Vinyl records. “Psalms” thunders along a buzzing, rough-hewn guitar riff that dominated so much of the psychedelic hard rock in the early 1970’s. With a slithering groove paired alongside smooth seductive vocals, the band hits us with a quickened tempo change for good measure. The lyrics trend towards philosophical questions like “Do you feel that love is real?” and “am I really born to die?” A wickedly nasty guitar solo gives you the answer. Upcoming shows include their Album Release Party at Glasslands on June 18th and The 4Knots Fest on June 29th. - Dave Cromwell

Heliotropes announces release + plays two NYC shows in two days

Brookyln's fuzzed-out psychedelic rock group, Heliotropes have a sound that would please the fans of Black Sabbath and Sleater-Kinney. Their latest single, Moonlight, is characterized by dark, heavy guitar riffs and melancholy strings that swirl around singer, Jessica Numsuwankijkul's brooding vocal style. Los Angeles label, Manimal Vinyl will release the band's first full-length album this Spring. Heliotropes are currently on tour with UK band Esbend and will be playing Mercury Lounge on 03.22 and The Knit on 03.23. - Andy Lambert

Brooklyn girls with seriously psychedelic chops: Heliotropes

I don't know why, it's surely just some kind of preconception, but when we heard the phased out, psychedelic blues of Heliotropes we almost immediately imagined a bunch of bearded, long haired dudes behind the instruments. Well, it turns out this is an all girl, non-bearded band, whose music would work perfectly on a bill between Widowspeak and Naam. The quartet released their debut 7" in November 2011 and will celebrate the release of the new 12" entitled "Moonlite" (streaming below) on May 22 at The Knitting Factory.
