Lucius
Chappo headlines Mercury with Monogold, Lucius and Jeff Taylor on 12.17

CHAPPO is coming off a busy summer/fall, playing an array of sweaty, confetti covered clubs, releasing their inner moon shamans on the regular, recording and self-releasing their second concept EP as well tracking their debut full length album, which is due out in the spring 2012. Their first EP Plastique Universe was touted for it's "excellently overstuffed garage psyche sound" by Pitchfork and the lead off track "Come Home" was featured on an Ipod touch commercial last fall. CHAPPO has also received much praise for their lives shows - they played for The Deli at CMJ 2010. Intense and engaging their music combines psychedelic flourishes with funky lighting, fog, feathers and... confetti! They are headlining their first show at Mercury Lounge on Saturday, December 17th. Also on the bill are good Jeff Taylor, Monogold and Lucius. Hear the new track "Island Opiate" from their latest EP "Plastique Universe II: Pisces Princess," streaming below. - (as posted in The Deli's Open Blog - post your band's entries, videos, and Mp3s here). Weekly Feature: Lucius - Live at Mercury Lounge on June 11
Lucius put together one of the most impressive performances we witnessed at our latest Deli NYC B.E.A.F. show, demonstrating how traditional songwriting can be brought to an entirely new level with a little imagination in the arrangement and performance departments. These ladies can write good songs, sing beautifully, perform convincingly on stage, and put on a show at once emotional and powerful. If their upcoming album manages to recreate what we heard and saw at the Kniting Factory a couple of Tuesdays ago (something that currently can't be found on their website), this band - in the near future - could have a lot of fun (and many new fans). Don't miss their show at Mercury Lounge on June 11. - Read a Deli interview with the band from last year here.
Best of NYC #86: Lucius play Deli's B.E.A.F on May 24 at The Knit
On their debut album "Songs from the Bromley House", Lucius (who placed 86th on our latest Year End Poll for emerging NYC artists) shares their experiences of living in this century-old Bushwick residence. The album is filled with warm colors and folksy Americana, working well as a backdrop under the unrushed energy of singer-songwriters Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig. It's a beautiful thing to hear their voices tell each other's stories together in perfect cadence. You feel the care and sensitivity these two share for one another with every delicate nuance. It's nice to be invited into the Bromley House for a little while... - Mike Levine
