Soul Glo

Weekend Warrior - August 30 - September 1

Hopefully you have Monday off to recover from this week’s Weekend Warrior pick. SRA Records will be hosting its 10th Anniversary Bash this Sunday at PhilaMOCA. The local indie label is never shy about bringing us some of the heaviest, hardest-hitting acts to come out of Philly. The celebration’s stacked lineup will consist of SRA family & friends – Chronic Anxiety, Psychic Teens, The HIRS Collective, Soul Glo, Solarized, Exmaid, FOD, and Gene London Calling. Get there early for the matinee hours and beyond! And if you happen to be one of the unfortunate ones who don’t have Labor Day off, then just quit already because they obviously don’t appreciate you. – Alexis V.

New Soul Glo Album Available for Streaming & Purchase

Philly punks Soul Glo forms profound, rapid-fire prose, hell-bent on exposing the everyday realities experienced in the black community to the masses. "Underneath my will to live clings tight my will to die, the silent secret of my strength is all the shame I’ve centralized." Pulling from the influences of noise, rap and hardcore, the group makes powerful, eye-opening statements with their latest album, The Nigga In Me Is Me, which is now available via SRA Records. Press play, and get educated.

New Track: "22" - Soul Glo

THE N**** IN ME IS ME, the forthcoming album from Soul Glo, is slated to arrive on June 7 via SRA Records. Its opening track, “22,” barrels forward at a frenetic clip, releasing thoughtful lyricism in a raw, eruptive form. That avalanche of free-flowing vocals and unabashed instrumentation cultivates a quick, impactful punch. You'll be able to feel the sting in-person, when the band performs at Break Free Fest, which will be taking place from May 25-27 at The Rotunda. (Photo by Luke Mouradian)

New Don't Stop Now Benefit Compilation Available for Streaming & Purchase

Philly's own Don't Stop Now series just shared its second compilation in time for this oh so important Election Day. "Let it serve as a reminder that the fight for justice is not over, that the celebration of diversity is essential to progress, that we must work together for what is fair and good." Stacked mostly with kick-ass local artists like Tom May (The Menzingers), Cherry, Augusta Koch (Cayetana), No Thank You, SOUL GLO, Greg Mendez, and many, many more covering beloved artists (Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Fugazi, The Beastie Boys, Tom Waits, Lucinda Williams, Sharon Van Etten, etc.), you now have plenty of entertainment on your way to the voting booth. All proceeds from the compilation will be donated to RAICES (Refugee & Immigrant Center for Education & Legal Services), "a nonprofit agency that promotes justice by providing free and low-cost legal services to underserved immigrant children, families, and refugees in Texas."

Weekend Warrior, October 26 - 28

Restoring the power to those affected by mass incarceration, flipping the script on systematic racism and violence, Reclaim Philadelphia’s Mass Liberation Campaign aims to promote change focused on unjust policing and in-prisoning practices in Philadelphia, via organization and education developing leaders. Tonight, Everybody Hits hosts a benefit for the MLC - one which showcases artists whose music coincides and reinforces those messages. Sammus articulates a wide spectrum of pertinent issues addressing things from a personal perspective, infusing nerdcore with an unyielding tenacity that will not be denied. Pinkwash cultivates a brutal, melodic punk, in a smash-and-sear framework - one etched in earnest vocal delivery and the release of emotion in cathartic waves of heavy, while Soul Glo unleashes internalized thoughts over the top of potent, instrumental blitzes. And on New Pedal, the recent release from Likes, an experimental, warped, sonic world is on full display. Please come out & show your support for much-needed change! – Michael Colavita
