Soul Glo

New Track: "Mathed Up" - Soul Glo

An unrelenting, raw intensity streams from Soul Glo. Their latest single, “Mathed Up,” allows the flow of frustration over societal oppression to come to a lyrical head. Exploring the fervor of inequality in a densely-packed, musical window, the vocals hover between an unfiltered, furious scream and a crisper, hip-hop delivery; that combination creates a balanced, resounding impact. Soul Glo will be performing this evening at Everybody Hits, as part of the Mass Liberation Campaign Benefit, which also features Sammus, Pinkwash, and Likes. (Photo by Luke Mouradian)

Weekend Warrior, May 4 - 6

Get Better Fest 5 will be bringing the positive vibes to the basement of the First Unitarian Church. Benefitting Black & Pink, Morris Home, and Project SAFE, kind locals will be donating their time and talents, to raise money and awareness for these multitude of good, important causes. A beautiful bluntness bangs on the sonic doors when listening to Soul Glo. Unabashedly in your face and unwavering, their bombarding instrumentation pushes against the barriers at high velocity. Hovering between hushed and heavy tones, caught between the noise-induced blitz and relatively subdued melodies, there’s a cathartic intensity found in the music of Mannequin PussyBlank Spell stirs in the shadows, creeping out in quick bursts of menace. You’ll also come across the precise attack of Control Top’s punk/dance hybrid, while the noise-speckled glow of Empath rounds out this small sampling of the loaded, all-day lineup. – Michael Colavita

New Soul Glo EP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Philly punk outfit Soul Glo recently shared a new trio of tracks as Tour Tape 2K18. What was meant to be a stream only on Soundcloud is now available for download "due to legal shit in Missouri." While we hopefully continue to evolve and grow as a society, events such as the one that occurred to the band serve as an example of how more change is still necessary - right now! Delivering powerful, personal messages in tight musical windows, there’s a thoughtfulness that’s packed with raw emotion on the band's latest release. The collection of songs was recorded in October/December of 2017 by Cameron Konner at The Knife Lair.

With proceeds aiding those injured in Charlottesville, as well as those affected by Hurricane Harvey, one can listen to a massive collection that includes a multitude of local talent Bren Lukens, Cayetana, Sadie Dupuis, Mischief Brew, Soul Glo, HIRS, S-21, Radiator Hospital, Mannequin Pussy, Worriers, Dominic, Jon Loudon, and Roger Harvey among many others. Especially in times of crisis it’s important to standup for what one believes in, reach out to those who have sacrificed and suffered, and help in any way you can.

Weekend Warrior, May 26 - 28

The Rotunda hosts a daylong hardcore/punk affair this Saturday; Break Free Fest hopes to shine a light on those that have been marginalized within the scene. Among the plethora of artists from near and far, the undeterred raw emotive eruption of Soul Glo holds nothing back, capturing an intensity soaked in sincerity. After recently releasing their new EP Modern MutantsComplex bombards the airwaves with the combination of Spanish-English that steadily rips at its core. Exposing the walls of injustice, the quick-hitting onslaught of S-21 tears at the foundation, while the murky, rumbling, noise-etching, pressure-building punk of Solarized and genre-melding, noise-filtered, dance-driven, sonic-concoctions of DJ Haram set off a day of excellence. - Michael Colavita
