One of the beautiful things that has provided me with hope when faced with the imminent reality of living in a Trump kleptocracy is witnessing the natural outpour of kindness and compassion that has spread throughout our communities, as we learn more than ever the necessity to be the keepers of our brothers and sisters. It is the responsibility of all of us to make sure our neighbors, friends, family and loved ones are safe. Lame-O Records and multitude of talented artists will be taking over Boot & Saddle every Thursday in January to raise money for organizations in need of our help. Tonight will be the kick-off of the Philly label's "Rock Residency" with family members Hurry, Dominic, and Cherry, who will be donating their proceeds to Planned Parenthood, followed by Slaughter Beach, Dog, Loose Tooth, and No Thank You for Juntos, Thin Lips, The Superweaks, and The Obsessives for The Attic Youth Center, and Three Man Cannon, Kate Ellen, and The Afterglows for the Philly ACLU. You'll have plenty of chances to do some good this month, while still getting to rock out - a bit of guilt-free partying, except maybe when you decide to not go to work or school on Friday, which I totally give you permission to do. Local alt-rockers The Superweaks will be celebrating the release of their sophomore LP, Better Heavens, tonight at Kung Fu Necktie, which will be a bittersweet affair as they also honor fallen bassist and brethren Corey Bernard, who would have been 23 today. The band will be embarking on a tour in support of the new album next month that will take them up through Canada and then back down into the states through parts of the south. The full-length officially comes out November 4 via Lame-O Records. This evening's celebratory billing at KFN will also include Philly pals Sun Organ, Three Man Cannon, and Thin Lips, whose album Riff Hard was released back in May with Lame-O as well. Thin Lips have been tearing it up all across the country in support of their latest album Riff Hard (Lame-O Records). And with the band barreling through the Fillmore this evening with tourmates Modern Baseball and Joyce Manor, we have a new music video for you for the track, "My Mouth Is Skinned Like An Apple," which was directed by Adam Peditio. Frontwoman Chrissy Tashjian recently shared in an email to The Fader, "So much of my music is about being a queer and so I just kind of wanted to show a day in my life. I met with Adam and just showed him all of the little things I collect, my altar, and some of my most special friends (some couldn't make it obviously). [The video is] just basically a day of what is important to me and what impacts and influences me most."

Tonight at Everybody Hits is the long-awaited release show for Thin Lips’ debut LP Riff Hard, coming out via local tastemakers Lame-O Records. Thin Lips are a venerable supergroup of longstanding Philly stalwarts who have hit a sweet spot of triumphant pop rock and confessional, introspective lyrics without sentimentality. Chrissy Tashjian, formerly of Dangerous Ponies and The Bee Team, captains this ship with her commanding, casual, and versatile vocals. The hard riffs are largely courtesy of longtime bandmate Kyle Pulley (ex-Dangerous Ponies) and Chris Diehm, a punk-rock lifer who cut his teeth in Lancaster’s 1994! before coming to Philly and lending his talents to Thin Lips, as well as Year Of Glad. The band is filled out by Mikey Tashjian (The Superweaks, ex-Dangerous Ponies), who shows his ability to shift rhythms and help craft intriguing songs, while maintaining a not-too-serious rock 'n' roll sheen. Celebrating with the Lips will be Casey Magic, Lame-O labelmates Lowercase Roses, folky psych rockers Pine Barons, and Pure Pop, a “new pop-punk trio comprised of Lame-O, Superweaks, and Modern Baseball angel babies.” Everybody Hits, 529 W.
