Operator Music Band unveils "Slim Spin" from upcoming full length

Brooklyn’s Operator Music Band pull no punches on new single “Slim Spin,” launching right into a three minute vamp of spring clock percussion, synth jazz chord progressions, and start-stop guitar solos of no wave origins. It’s hard to render the wide-breadth of influences OMB have channeled into this premiere track from their forthcoming album Duo Duo, but the New York quartet has an ear for understanding what distinct genre influences blend mellifluously. This is best demonstrated by the song’s second half, wherein over a repeated, hypnotic vocal line by singer and multi-instrumentalist Dara Hirsch, the group shifts keys seamlessly (and sometimes chromatically), building tension that coalesces in a melodic explosion of wurlitzer synths and sunburnt Fender riffs. It’s but a snippet of Operator Music Band’s penchant for the experimental, and it bodes well for the rest of the outfit’s sophomore record, out September 20th. Afinca'o “Si Esta Cama Hablara”

Afinca’o released a new sultry single called “Si Esta Cama Hablara” earlier this month. The title roughly translates to "if this bed could talk", and the heat builds from note one.

This is the Salsa band’s third single, first since 2017, since the release of their 2016 album Prepárate.

You can catch Afinca’o on July 5th at Spirit of Music Garden at Grant Park. They will also be performing at Taste of Chicago on July 12th on the Goose Island Stage.

Fresh Buzz: Arthur Moon announces debut LP, plays Elsewhere with Palehound 07.10

We've been huge fans of Arthur Moon for awhile. Admittedly, releases-wise things haven't been moving at break-necking pace for the the avant-indie project of queer artist Lora-Faye Åshuvud, as it often happens with music that's a little more sophisticated than the average. And Arthur Moon's music is a lot more sophisticated - and complicated - than the average. But finally word is out that the project debut album, following their excellent 2017 debut EP Our Head and a few singles, is about to drop, and preview single Homonormo bodes well for an outstanding release. Subverting anything that can be subverted in the rhythmic, melodic and production realms, this vocoder and plodding drumbeat-driven song finds a perfect balance between experimentation and melody, with Lora-Faye's vocals guiding us charmingly and confidently through an unexpected path of sonic twists and turns that never sound forced.

Arthur Moon will be performing live at Elsewhere with Palehound on July 10th, with the debut record scheduled for an August 2nd release.

Mocrep "I Like My Friends"

Parlour Tapes+ recently released the debut album, I Like My Friends, from experimental collective Mocrep. This album is both challenging and rewarding, electronic and Americana, strange and traditional. You have the straightforward Pop of “Phantom Love” or the meditative country twang of “Cold Pillow” or the disco thump of “All I Need” mixed with the ambient spoken word of “A Love Below” and the jazz of “The Way You Comb Your Hair”.

The 18 track album really defies classification but is compelling from start to finish. Mocrep is the work of Amanda Bailey, Owen Davis, Alex Ellsworth, Zachary Good, Deidre Huckabay, Lia Kohl, Jenna Lyle, Zach Moore, Andrew Tham, Chris Wood, and Ryan Zerna.
