Boy Scouts plays Phono del Sol June 15th

Phono del Sol is a free festival at Potrero del Sol park. This year’s lineup features an Oakland favorite, Boy Scouts, whose folksy bedroom pop-rock is relaxing, charming and damn good. Taylor Vick’s vocals are sweet and pitch perfect, a fine complement to the keys and strums. Boy Scouts’ last release, Spiritual Pickle, is a 2-song sampler. Tracks “Kite” and “My Idiot Brain” are lofi, low pressure and highly pleasing. Catch Boy Scouts at Phono del Sol and wherever else they’re playing comin’ up soon! Stay tuned. - Lucille Faulkner

The Illustrious Blacks will have you grooving at Baby's All Right 06.20

The old saying that two heads are better than one is confirmed by the pairing of Manchildblack and Monstah Black. Known collectively as The Illustrious Blacks, this NYC duo takes the rhythms of '70s disco and enhances their pizzazz through iconic '80s influences (Boy George, Prince). Their latest single "Revolutionary Love" (streaming) is driven by an infectious bassline and a sophisticated arrangement that slowly builds towards a brass section-enriched chorus. "Revolutionary Love" was specially made for last year's Pride 2018 and its anthemic lyrics reflect that as they chant "I don't give a fuck what they think about us/We got something none can touch/A Revolutionary Love." The duo has a string of shows through Brooklyn in June which culminate with a performance at Baby's All Right Jun 20th. - Rene Cobar

New Track: "Glitter" - Goat Mumbles

Goat Mumbles, a.k.a. Robe Grote (of The Districts) recently shared a new single, called “Glitter,” whose proceeds will be donated to the Yellowhammer Fund to support those in need of abortions in Alabama. Bright, bouncy synths and percussion generate a dance-invigorating ecxitement, and coupled with the pleading falsetto, you are instantly transported to a fantastical, 80's movie dream sequence. It will allow you to step away from the daily grind, and lose yourself for a moment.

New Music Video: "Body Says" - Void Vision

A new video for Void Vision's "Body Says" has arrived. The lead single, featured on Shari Vari's forthcoming album The Other, is due out later this year via Mannequin Records. Directed by Hanna Hamilton & Floor Eleven, a quartet of white-coated, vampire-esque individuals are onlookers to a bit of tantalizing entertainment. A hypnotic, danceable darkness consumes as a whole lotta freakiness falls under the spell of the music.

"A claustrophobic ode to physical and mental confines. Dark voguing, undulating bodies, DIY surgery and the increasing sensory stimulation compels the demonic watchers to become ravenous and bloodthirsty."

Fresh Buzz: Cheap Synths sign to Rough Trade

The dance-inducing rhythms of NYC’s Cheap Synths reverberate the style and edge of alternative dance bands like Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem. The group could easily have been pulled from a DFA Records catalog, and yet their sonic varnish shines brightly and has landed them a publishing deal with Rough Trade. The electronic rock duo has released their first mixtape yes yes yes with its first single “Devastate” flaunting noteworthy grit and glamour. A heavy bassline accompanies a slick guitar riff while synth stabs and pads contribute to a complex aural texture. The accompanying video is the powdered sugar on top of this sweet dance-rock cookie.
