Tiergarten celebrates the release of their debut EP at Union Pool on 6.15

Brooklyn-based band Tiergarten marries the power rock guitar sound of the 90's (think Failure and Screaming Trees) with the lush melodicism and harmonic complexity of shoegaze. Their latest single “Paradigm” (streaming) is characterized by tonal and dynamic shifts reminiscent of the loud/quiet/loud days of grunge. Second single “Aerons (Infinity Glow),” on the other hand, veers towards shoegaze with droney guitar parts and Alex Von Klemperer’s drawn-out vocals. The band's debut EP 'Magnificent Desolation' is set to be self-released on June 17th, and release celebrations are scheduled for June 15th at Union Pool. - John Honan

Nashville's Boom Forest moves to NYC + lands residency at The Knitting Factory (next show on 6/15) new

This past fall, Nashville-based experimental rock project Boom Forest (aka songwriter John Paul Roney) released a sublime chimera of an album with ‘Post Knight Errant.’ Starting with the guitar-soared “Silver Hair,” which elegantly segues into the a capella-flecked “Been” and then leads to “Cameron” (streaming below), an electronics-flirting track that pleasantly recalls ‘White Album’-era Beatles, the work is both dark and warm, anxious but welcoming, and emerges as something of near beatific power. Roney recently relocated to Brooklyn, and quickly landed a three week residency at the Knitting Factory - the last night of which is next Wednesday (6/15). - Zach Weg

A stompbox inspired delirium: The Stargazer Lillies, play The Echo on 06.12

Listening to the brand new album 'Door to the Sun' by PA via New York trio The Stargazer Lillies is an experience comparable to getting lost in the fog. The fog, in this circumstance, is of the aural kind, created by an over-abundance of guitar effects employed (very unsparingly) by guitarist John Cep, formerly of Soundpool. The trio will be performing at The Echo on June 12 and then the following day at San Diego's Hideout.

Spacin' Deliver the Goods at KFN June 7

Sticky guitar licks that ramp up crisscrossing into long distance jams. With spider-like dexterity, sonic limbs extend outward, reaching for a higher level. Spacin' exhibits a simplistic knack to sit back and deliver the goods in a pure raw state. The group spins out in multiple directions - whether the destination is within eyes view, requiring a direct route, or one whose path will be determined by the musical monuments along the way. Either way, those in need of a psych-rock adventure should head to Kung Fu Necktie this evening. Tonight's lineup is reinforced by State Champion, whose accessible yet precise lyrical narratives plug you into the middle of the action - a granular, country-injected, rockin' sound that sticks. The multifaceted psych-shoegazing textures of Elliott Malvas-led, Virginia Beach-based, You’re Jovian, complete this billing. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 8pm, $7, 21+ - Michael Colavita

PLUSH to Perform as King Woman´s Special Guest at Starline Social Club - 6/19

The Oakland based band, King Woman will be finishing out their current tour with Wax Idols in their home town at Starline Social Club on June 19th.

Miserable songwriter and all around underground goth goddess, Kristina Esfandiari has lead King Woman into an amazing career. With that said, the band has not left behind their local community behind as they invited special guest, the promising local underground independent band, PLUSH to perform for their upcoming show. It goes without saying this is going to be a local show that shouldn´t be missed. It´s cool to see King Woman supporting local bands!
