PREMIERE: Guilty Giraffe's self-titled is a pedalboard dream, plays Berlin 3.1

Uptown overdrive champs Guilty Giraffe shine on their newly released self titled LP, incorporating an aggressive smattering of varied guitar-driven subgenera over the course of ten immaculately-produced tracks. From the introductory “Babyface” the Yonkers quartet makes their love of effects pedals well-known, quickly pivoting from a shoegazing overture to dream-pop arpeggios; this dynamic blend of sounds dark and bright continues well-through album standouts like “Xanax” and “Washed Out,” wherein frontman Mathew McGinnis’s growling vox shifts between grungy, full-throated yells and plainspoken singspeak, a delightful performance that places him somewhere between Kevin Shields and Andrew WK. With acrobatic licks and a penchant for the occasional, experimental soundscape (“Cool as a Fan”), Guilty Giraffe shreds through and through — listen to our premiere stream of the record below, and catch the band at Berlin on March 1st.

Ringtail debuts edgy single "Ask the Dust," plays Midway Cafe 03.13

Boston’s waterfront neighborhood of Charleston is currently echoing the screaming guitar solos and furious rhythms of its local heroes Ringtail. The quartet of gentlemen that comprise the group has released a new single titled “Ask the Dust,” which immediately revs up and blasts off into a shoegaze paradise of dreamy electric guitar leads, raw vocal deliveries, and eruptive drum fills. With hints of sweet shoegaze and spicy stoner metal, the new song is a treat you can savor for a while. The group is gearing up for a hometown show at Midway Cafe on March 13th, and for a strong 2020 to come. Stream the new single below for a sick blend of styles your midweek deserves. - Rene Cobar

02.13: Moaning plays a free show at the reopened Moon Room

If you recall the dust-up at the Atwater Bar last year, you may have written off the space -- as well as the Griffin -- as a place to catch live music in LA for good. But never fear, because the Moon Room has opened its doors on that site, and shoegaze alt-rockers Moaning will play a free show there on February 13th. The trio have a new album called Uneasy Laughter dropping in March, on which they'll debut their more synth-friendly sound. While the usual doom-tinged drum & bass and abrasive guitars aren't going anywhere, Moaning have brought a few new instruments into the mix to add a little texture to their tracks. It'll make you laugh, it'll make you dance, and it'll make you want more. Take a look at the video for the album's first track "Ego" below, and catch Moaning at the Moon Room on 2/13. - Will Sisskind
